My mortgage broker is stalking me!

Just kidding. He’s so not stalking me, it’s just that today I received another weekly mailing from my mortgage broker. Okay, he’s not my mortgage broker, but rather he’s a friend’s mortgage broker that I spoke to a few years ago about possibly buying a house. He would periodically send me this great little newsletter that he puts together with all sorts of home buying and selling tips in it. I would get one every couple of months, and usually it wasn’t a big deal. But lately I’ve been getting one it seems almost every other week. This isn’t a scientific poll or anything, but lately I’ve noticed he’s been sending out  more of these newsletters to me than he used to. The frequency has definitely increased.

Now is it because he’s got a lot of business because he knows people want to refinance their houses because they can’t afford them anymore? Or is it because he doesn’t have a lot of business and he’s just trying to drum some up? I don’t know, I’d probably say it’s six of one and half dozen of the other. Some friends of mine just recently refinanced their mortgage and decided to do a one-year refinance to see what happens next year. Neither of them are in danger of losing their jobs, and therefore not in danger of losing their house, but they’re actually thinking of selling the house because they’re tired of all the maintenance. They’d prefer to live in a condo or equivalent where they don’t have to worry about cutting the grass, or shoveling the driveway. I know those are two reasons why I haven’t bought. Add to that the fact that I’m not a plumber, nor an electrician, and I don’t want to have to deal with it. No way.

Have any of you sold your house because you were sick of the expense? Have you thought of selling your house in a pre-emptive move to possibly losing your job? A friend of mine did that, as she did want to have to think about the possibility of not being able to make her mortgage payment and therefore lose her house to the bank. This is why I’m glad I rent. You might think I’m “throwing my money away” by paying someone else’s mortgage with my monthly rent, but I look at it as a way to ensure my sanity. I don’t have to worry about anything when something breaks. I just have to pick up the phone and call the super. Done and done. :-)
