Now 10 dollars doesn’t seem like a a huge amount to anyone these days, but if you can trim the 10 dollars from various places in your life, you’ve got some extra cash to apply to your debt or even your savings account. And you don’t even have to start living like a hermit to implement these tips, so go ahead and live life!
- Bring your lunch to work. Yes, one is harped on by many people, but it is the most simple way for you to save some cash. If you think that on average you spend $5-7 a day just on lunch, and you’ve saved more than $10 in the week. Plus the added bonus is you’ll probably feel better as you’ll be eating more heathily.
- Brew your own coffee or tea. Spending $1-2 a day per coffee or tea means you can save several dollars a day, which will add up to more than $10 per week. Just buy yourself a sturdy thermos and bring it with you to work. Your coffee or tea is kept warm, and you’ll be saving over $5 a day if you’re a multiple cup drinker, even more if you’re like me and like the lattes!
- Buy generic brands whenever you can. The generic brands at the stores, whether that’s the grocery store or the pharmacy, are often the exact same product, but cost several dollars less. This is particularly true at the pharmacy. Just pick up the label and compare, you’ll be surprised.
- Review your magazine subscriptions and cancel any you don’t read anymore. You’d be surprised how many people renew magazine subscriptions out of habit, I know I have. But if you stop and think for a moment, you’re not only going to save at least $10 a month, but you’re also going to be doing something good for the environment as you’re saving the paper from the printers.
- Rediscover the library and read for free. The library is a wonderful place where you can not only borrow the book you were going to buy, but you can also rent movies as well. This tip will save you quite a few bucks on different sides of your life.
- Try using a water filter instead of buying bottled water at home. I recently made this switch, and while the initial start up cost may seem high, you’ll see that within a month or two, you’re already saving. Water filters cost about $2 or $3 each, and last over 2 months each, so you’ll definitely be saving more than $10 quickly.
- Visit a thrift store or consignment store next time you go clothes shopping. You’d be surprised at what people give away, and you’ll probably be able to pick up some good items. A quick wash in the washing machine, and the clothes are good to go.
- Plan your errands & car trips to save on gas. With the high cost of gas these days, it makes good fiscal sense to plan things you before you hop in the car. It might save you a few bucks. I know it works for me.
- Skip the vending machine at work. Bring in your snacks.
- Cancel that extended cable tv package you have. Chances are you’re not watching all those channels anyways. At the very least, give your cable company a call and see if there’s any way you can reduce your costs. My cable company doesn’t often tell me about specials they have, so I’ve got to review things and give them a call. Once I do that, they’re usually more than happy to keep me.
And there you have it, 10 ways to save $10 (or more). Hopefully you can come up with a few more to save you some more cash. The extra money can be put towards your debt or to your emergency savings fund.
